EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1675), SIGNED YAMATO (NO) KAMI YOSHIMICHI, ATTRIBUTED TO YOSHIMICHI II

Configuration (sugata): shallow peaked back (iori-mune) and medium point (chu-kissaki); length (nagasa): 1 shaku, 8 sun (54.7cm.); curvature (sori): torii-zori of 1.2cm.; increase in width of blade (fumbari): 1.0cm.
Forging pattern (jihada): well-defined wood grain (itame) mixed with some small burl (ko-mokume).
Tempering pattern (hamon): excellent fist-shaped clove patterns (kobushigata-choji) and with areas of 'swept sands' (sunagashi) in the points of lowest convexity, principally in the lower half of the blade.
Point (boshi): small rounded (ko-maru) with medium kaeri.
Tang (nakago). Shape (keitai): regular, tapering, unshortened and with a moist, brown patina; file marks (yasurime): sloping (sujikai); holes (mekugi-ana): iri-yamagata; holes (mekugi-ana): two; signature (katanamei): Yamato (no) Kami Yoshimichi.
