A GOLD-MOUNTED BLOODSTONE SEAL
English, mid-19th Century

Formed as an armoured leg, the knee and foot chased and engraved as jointed armour with foliate decoration, the heel with a spur and enclosing beneath a bloodstone matrix cut with a motto, the hardstone leg sections with chased and engraved buckles and hinge and with a stylised acanthus mount at the top enclosing a seal matrix cut with a coat of arms, unmarked - approx. 3¾in. (6cm.) high

The arms are those of Neville impaling Frankland for Ralph Neville Grenville (1817-1886) M.P. of Butleigh Court, Somerset and his wife Julia Roberta (d.1892) daughter of Sir Robert Frankland Russell, 7th Bt., whom he married in 1845.
