Lot Essay

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Hugh Bolton Jones studied in Paris before settling at his studio in New York. Known primarily for his landscapes of Connecticut and New Jersey, Jones also painted in and around Pennsylvania. In 1883 he became a member of the National Academy of Design, and exhibited at the Paris, Columbian and St. Louis expositions. Jones's work is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the Brooklyn Museum.
