Lot Essay

Henry Dasson (1825-1896), is recorded as having worked in Paris at 106 rue Vieille-du-Temple. In 1878 he exhibited at the Exposition universelle, after which the Dasson name became renowned. Until the firm closed in 1894, he created fine reproductions and interpretations of 18th Century furniture in the styles of Louis XIV, XV and XVI. Cf. D. Ledoux Lebard, Le Mobilier Français Du XIXe Siècle, 1984, pp. 146-151.

A closely related table de milieu by Charles Winckelsen is illustrated in D. Ledoux-Lebard Le Mobilier Français Du XIXe Siècle, 1984, p. 636. It is known that Dasson purchased Winckelson's atelier in 1871 and was undoubtedly influenced by existing earlier models. A virtually identical table de milieu attributed to Charles Winckelsen was sold these Rooms 25 April 1994, lot 455.
