Lot Essay

Jean-Baptiste-Francois Cheret entered his mark in 1759 and, in 1773 was advertising "Chez Cheret, quai des Orfevres au Chariot D'Or." Of him, Henri Nocq wrote, "Les oeuvres de cet orfevre sont probablement celles qui ont subsiste en plus grand nombre. On en trouve dans la plupart des collections. Elles sont d'ailleurs de bonne qualite."

The crest and motto are those of Vernon.
