Oblong, with elaborate foliate scroll and shell border and two acanthus scroll handles, raised on four grapevine and shell feet, the center engraved with a Bishop's armorials on ermine mantling, marked on reverse--29in.(74cm.) long

Lot Essay

The arms are those of the See of Tuam, Killala and Achonry, co. Gallway, impaling those of Trench, as borne by Power Trench, Archbishop of Tuam, born in 1770. He was the brother of Richard, 2nd Earl of Clancarty. Power Trench married on January 29, 1795 Anne, daughter of Walter Taylor of Castle Taylor, and died in March 1839.
