Each on square bases, with central wells with applied ropetwist, rising to a baluster stem with fluted knop and baluster socket and removable ropetwist nozzles, engraved on bases with a coat-of-arms within a foliate scroll cartouche and surmounted by a slightly later Baron's coronet, marked under base and on sockets--8½in.(21.5cm.) high

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Bridgeman impaling those of Simpson, as borne by Henry Bridgeman, born in 1725, who married in 1755 Elizabeth, daughter of the Rev. John Simpson. He succeeded his father, Sir Orlando Bridgeman, as baronet in 1764 and was created Baron Bradford in 1794. He had been Clerk Comptroller of the Board of Green Cloth 1761-1764 and was M.P. for Ludlow 1748-1768 and for Wenlock 1768-1794. He died in 1800 aged 74.
