Several related quilts with diagonal cross-hatching, individually inscribed squares, and dogtooth borders are documented from the western area of New Jersey, near the Pennsylvania border. These include two illustrated in New Jersey Quilts, 1777 to 1950: Contributions to an American Tradition (Kentucky, 1992), p. 73, plate 32 and p. 76, plate 35, from Hunterdon County and Gloucester County, respectively.
Several other related album quilts from nearby Pennsylvania and Delaware demonstrate the prevalence of this signature quilt form in the region. In addition, their religious origin suggests that while the form may have been common throughout the Delaware Valley, it was particulalry popularized within Quaker communities. These related quilts include include a Bucks County Quaker Wedding Quilt made for Sarah Fisher Jackson, c. 1844, a Quaker Friendship Quilt dated 1841-1852 from Mullica Hill, New Jersey; a Quaker Wedding Quilt from Doylestown, Pa., (c. 1842); a Quaker Friendship Quilt from Southern Chester County, c. 1854; and a Delaware Friendship Quilt, c. 1846 (each illustrated in Nicoll, Jessica F., Quilted for Friends: Delaware Valley Signature Quilts, 1840 - 1855, (Winterthur, 1986), cat. nos. 20, 3, 11, 40, and 27 respectively).
