A standing figure with short legs curved hips, elongated torso with slightly protruding abdomen, small conical arms extending from shoulders, large oval head with small mouth, long ridged nose, inset eyes, domed brow, longitudinal incisions on abdomen, dark brown to yellow color, 6½in. (16.6cm.) long

Lot Essay

The massive torso of this figure indicates that it was fashioned from the ticke end of a n unusually large tusk. An Okvik head formerly in the Gordon Douglas collection has features that are somewhat comparable to the head of this figure (see Wardwell, 1986, p. 45, no. 21).
