MISSAL, use of Sarum. Missale ad usum insignis ecclesie Sarum, una cum eiusdem ecclesie consuetudinibus ac observantiis suis locis insertis. Antwerp: Christoffel van Ruremund, 14 April 1528.
Four parts in one volume, 2° (282 x 204mm). Title partly in red with woodcut illustration within border of woodcut blocks, half-page woodcut of the Mass on a1, ff.B1/2 in second part PRINTED ON VELLUM with full-page woodcut of the Crucifixion (margins trimmed), smaller woodcut illustrations in the text and initials, double column, printed partly in red. (Some pages in first gathering misbound, slightly soiled, some leaves with dampstains and small tears, mostly marginal.) 18th-century sheep, spine in compartments with red lettering piece (slightly worn, upper cover loose). Provenance: Peter Nouaille Greatness (armorial bookplate).
Rare edition of the Sarum Missal, of which STC 16209 locates one other perfect copy in the British Library, and two imperfect at Oxford and Cambridge; Adams L1211; Weale/Bohatta 1439; not in Alès.
