Each backplate cast as an arrow-filled quiver cast with trellis-work and enclosing paterae flanked by rams' heads continuing to a spiral-fluted similarly cast fruiting finial centering berried laurel branches issuing fruiting bobêches and centrally tied with garlands, each stamped '6 ON' (lacking chains and wreaths) -21¼in. This lot relates to two very similar pairs of appliques, one formerly in the collection of Stavros Niarchos and sold by Charlotte Ford in these Rooms, 18 November 1978, lot 139, and another from the collection of Jaime Ortiz-Patiño, sold Sotheby's New York, 30 May 1992, lot 34.
