Flared snout with pierced open mouth flanked by two forward projecting tusks, thin nose raised at the nostrils, the forehead a semi-circular panel at right angles to the snout with a projecting horn flanked by conical eyes, large projection arched ears, black and white pigment, 21in. Such masks were worn at funerals and during festivals in the dry season. They symbolize the endurance and strength of the elephant (see Cole and Aniakor, 1984, pp. 152-57).
