Lot Essay

This panel is one of nine which Dalí painted on Plexiglas for a pharmaceutical convention held circa 1954 at Warner Laboratories in New Brunswick, New Jersey. One of Warner's major products at that time was the tranquilizer Miltown, and the series of paintings represents the progress of mankind from chaos to tranquility. The complete installation measured 160 feet in length. The panels went into storage after the occasion and were later dispersed among two private collections.

Robert Descharnes has confirmed the authenticity of this painting.
