A SILVER OVERLAID AND JEWELLED IRIDESCENT GLASS VASE
AUSTRIAN
The footed base ascending to a cylindrical neck with everted rim, the deep cobalt blue iridescent glass decorated with a wavy design, overlaid with a sinuous silver design decorated with burgundy, green and opalescent glass jewels, inscribed 174 u. 783--12½in. (31.8cm.) high
After the exhibition of Tiffany art glass in Reichenberg/Bohemia in 1897, Maximillian von Praun, the new owner of the Bohemian glass manufacturer Joh. Lötz Wittwe, was inspired to produce iridescent glass in the newly acclaimed Art Nouveau style. Within a few years of the enormous commercial success of Loetz, various other Bohemian Glasshütten imitated von Praun's iridescent art glass. Two manufacturers could have produced this glass vase: Benedikt von Poschinger in Buchenau in Bavaria or the Harrachschen Glasshte in Neuwelt/Boehmia.
