AN EMBROIDERED RED SILK WEDDING SKIRT

Elaborately and finely worked in couched silver and gold thread with dragons and phoenix against a dense ground of cloud whorls and strands of peony and other flowers along the vertical pleats, the couching stitched down in bright-colored threads of pink, green and red tone, the hem with silver fringe--37½in. (95.2cm.) long; together with another embroidered red silk skirt, worked in satin stitch with pink, white and purple strands of peony outlined in silver couched thread along the vertical pleats, bright purple trim--40½in.
