Lot Essay

The present example, numbered 4, is from a limited edition of reductions of French's monument cast by the Gorham foundry between 1917 and 1939. Only four bronzes were sold during French's lifetime at a cost of $160. According to the foundry records, the remaining six examples were cast in 1939.
