"Your letter of the 16th inst. came to hand yesterday, by which I am informed, that you have received from her Majesty's commission at London the medals, jurors reports, and services, awarded to Americans who were participants in the Great Exhibition of 1851; and you think that the distribution of these documents should properly devolve upon me, as President of the Central Authority at Washington. My official duties are too engrossing, so permit me to attempt the performance of this service. I have, however, had an interview with Col[.] Peter Force[,] the Chairman of the Committee in this place, and am happy to inform you, that he will undertake the distribution of these articles under my general direction. You will, therefore, please to forward them to him for that purpose."
