Lot Essay

A porringer by Cowell Sr. with an identical handle is illustrated in Kathryn C. Buhler, American Silver in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, 1972, fig, 103, pg. 128. For this reason the present porringer is attributed to Cowell Sr. although the mark on the present example was also used by his son.
