Worked in blocks of appliqued yellow and blue stars and the symbol of the red cross framed by blue sashing and red cross symbols surrounded by a double border of red and blue cotton, with a white cotton binding--100 x 100in.

Lot Essay

The iconography of this quilt relates to the first world war, the blue stars represent the troops, the yellow stars the fallen and the red cross symbol the wounded. It is possible that this quilt was made to support a community's war effort.
