MAKER'S MARK OF ALBERT COLES, NEW YORK, THE FIRST CIRCA 1850, THE SECOND CIRCA 1863

The first oblong, the sides with oblong engine-turned panels, the base and hinged cover engraved with elaboratel foliate scrolls on a reeded ground enclosing, on the base, flowers, and on the cover, a vacant scroll cartouche--3 1/2in. long; the second oblong with canted corners, the base, sides and hinged cover engine-turned and with engraved foliate incurved borders, the cover engraved with a folaite scroll engraved JM to JH Jan 31st, 1863 and flanked by similar circular panels engraved with architectural landscapes, the base with rectangular panel engraved with stylized foliage--3 1/2in. long, each marked
