HAMMER RIFLE BY HOLLAND & HOLLAND, No. 17618, Jones patent rotary-underlever, rebounding backlocks with bolted hammers, percussion fences, elongated top-strap, border engraving with added gold-encrusted and engraved figures of lion and leopard, the maker's name and serial number gold-inlaid, with full colour-hardened finish overall (renewed), well-figured stock with pistolgrip, engraved and colour-hardened pistolgrip-cap, cheekpiece and horn butt-plate, lever-latch forend, the barrels with matt sight-rib, open-sights and ramp-mounted bead-foresight

The makers have kindly confirmed that the rifle was completed circa 1899. In keeping with most early .303 rifles, records further show that the rifle might have been re-zeroed and have had new sights fitted in 1924
