A COMPOSITE GERMAN RAPIER with later blade of flattened hexagonal section with a single fuller on each side of the forte, iron hilt with guard of flat bars comprising vertically recurved quillons with spatulate tips, double kidney-shaped side-rings, the lower one linking the arms and with pierced sprung-in plate, two slender crossed diagonal bars on the inside, flattened oval pommel, and wire-bound wooden grip, the guard and pommel decorated with raised triangular panels engraved with foliage, circa 1630
