Lot Essay

During the Empire period a few French clockmakers were employing chain fusee movements in conjunction with great wheel skeleton clocks. The present example appears to a variant of these earlier examples. The present clock has an elongated spring barrel in the base and its great wheel is approximately two and a half times the diameter that of the dial which is always an indication of long duration.
