Lot Essay

The various elements of the table, such as the flowered-ribbon inlay, Grecian stepped and leaf-wrapped pedestal and the hollow-sided 'altar' plinth with foliated trusses, correspond to the George IV 'antique' style illustrated in P. & M.A. Nicholson's, Practical Cabinet-maker, Upholsterer and Complete Decorator, 1826, and George Smith's, Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1826. However the caster-fitted bars appear to be unique to this table
