AN IMPORTANT ART DECO DIAMOND CLIP BROOCH

Set with a cushion-shaped diamond weighing 25.22 carats in an old mine and marquise-cut diamond surround, mounted in platinum, circa 1930

Signed by Cartier, Paris, no. L2331

This dress clip is a fine example of Cartier's sensitivity in incorporating the finest or most historic diamonds into chic contemporary jewels. In this case the pattern of the ornamental surround to this old-cut cushion-shaped diamond is formed by the juxtaposition of marquise and old mine diamonds; the softer old mine stones flattering the antique cut of the central gem. The quality and cut of the diamond recall the diamonds of the French Crown Jewels.
