A GERMAN GILT COVERED EWER
with spurious Augsburg marks, late 19th century

Tapering cylindrical, the base engraved with geometrical designs and embossed with foliage, the ivory body chased with village scene in the taste of the late seventeenth century, the domed hinged cover with finial shaped as a couple of old peasants with their grand-daughter, the man holding a bottle, the woman cutting the throat of a hen, the child sitting beside, with scroll handle chased with putto's chest.
