A LARGE GERMAN GILT IMPERIAL JARDINIERE

Oval-shaped, in the roccoco style, chased with foliage and scrolls, engraved in the centre with crowned monogram W, with two foliate handles emerging out of lions heads, with plated interior.

Provenance
The crowned monogram W is that of Wilhelm, Prince of Prussia, who in 1888 became Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany.

Lot Essay

A set of three similar jardinieres is part of Schloss Huis Doorn, the place where Emperor Wilhelm II died in 1941, near Utrecht, in the Netherlands (see Kaiserliches Gold und Silber aus dem Schloss Huis Doorn, Herman Schadt, 1985, cat. 128 p. 128), and catalogue Kaiserlicher Kunstbesitz, Berlin, 1991, nr 292 with illustration, and on page 271.
