A GERMAN GILT COVERED CUP WITH FITTED LEATHER CASE
maker's mark ABE, probably Schweinfurt, circa 1800

On raised and spreading circular base decorated with bands of palmettes and guilloché, the stem decorated with hanging flower sprays and with reeded knop applied with laurel swags, the slightly waisted cup partly decorated with panels of hanging flower sprays, bands of strawberry leaves, flower heads, and stylised ornaments, the upper section inscribed "Der achtbaren Fischer-Innung zu Schweinfurt. An Ihrem Versamlungs Tage 1807. E. W. Besserer.", the tented cover with guilloché, berry-leaf and beaded bands and with urn-shaped finial. 26 cm high (599 gr)

This standing cup was a gift made in 1931 to the present owner by Princess Alexandra von Hohenlohe-Langenburg.
