Lot Essay

Mathieu Coiny (1723-after 1788), son of a master goldsmith at Versailles, struck his mark in Paris in 1755, his father acting as sponsor. Appointed Bijoutier Ordinaire des Princes in 1767, Coiny became an official of the Guild in 1771/1772.

The enamel on the lid is after an engraving of 1756 by J. Daullé, after Boucher.
