Five miniatures depicting children of the Duke of Cadiz: The Infant Francis of Assisi holding a bird's nest, in blue jacket with embroidered lace collar and white trousers, decorated with the jewel of the Order of the Golden Fleece and the sash of the Royal Spanish Order of Charles III; his younger brother, the Infant Henry, identically dressed and decorated, and playing the drum; the Infant Edward Philip in blue-embroidered white muslin costume holding a posy of roses; the Infanta Isabel holding a book, wearing a pearl necklace with matching earrings and a white lace bordered pink dress; the Infanta Louisa standing before a bowl of flowers, wearing a pearl necklace and matching earrings, and a white lace-edged lavender-blue dress; all oval -- between 80 and 64 mm high, the Infant Edward Philip cracked, gilt-metal mounts. A similar group of miniatures was included in our sale of Spanish Art, part I, London, 28 May 1992, lot 179.
For biographical details of the three boys, see lot 368. The Infanta Isabella (1821-1887) married Count Ignazy Gurovski, in 1841, and had issue. Her younger sister Luisa (1824-1900) married Don José-Osario de Moscoso y Carbajal, duque de Sessa, and had issue.
