WULLENBACHER. UNUSUAL SILVER GILT AND ENAMEL VIRGULE PENDANT WATCH
signed Ignatz Wüllenbacher in Josephstadt, circa 1820

with frosted and gilt-finished movement, florally engraved barrel and balance cocks, virgule escapement, plain three-arm brass balance, the small dial mounted above the movement case and driven from an extended pinion, in white enamel with Roman numerals, blued steel moon-style hands, case engine-turned and engraved with lake-side landscape, the cover enamelled with flowers on a black ground, cuvette signed- 44mm diam.

Lot Essay

The virgule escapement was introduced in about 1750. It was intended as an improvement of the horizontal escapement.
