Lot Essay

A pair of candlesticks of a very close design, made in Mons in 1674, was in the Ghent 1985 Exhibition (Bijlokemuseum, Meesterwerken in Zilver, no. 72; also Piet Baudoin, Pierre Colman and Dorsan Goethals, Orfèvrerie en Belgique, 1988, no. 93).
It is interesting to note that the six pointed star was not infrequently used in the 17th century in silversmiths' marks of the Southern Low Countries.
