A FINE FRENCH SILVER-GILT TWO-HANDLED BOWL
Paris 1798-1809, maker's mark of Jean-Baptiste-Claude Odiot

Circular and on trumpet-shaped foot applied with a laurel wreath rim and flat chased with radiating leaves, the bowl applied with antique Roman motifs beneath the ovolo rim, the handles in the shape of winged putti perched on consoles cast and chased with leaves and rosettes, marked on foot and bowl - 31 cm (12¼ in) wide across the handles, 13 cm (5 in) high

Lot Essay

The preparatory drawing by Cavelier for this cup is still preserved in the archives of Maison Odiot.
Called "Coupe d'entremets", the present cup formed part of a service including coffee-pot, teapot, cups and saucers. According to tradition, it is said to have been commissioned by Prince Borghese.
