Engraved frontispiece in each volume and 192 plates by Borel, Le Barbier, Marillier, Monsiau and Moreau, mostly before letters, EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED WITH 18 ORIGINAL CIRCULAR SEPIA INK-AND-WASH DRAWINGS and one tipped-in drawing, as further illustrations to the text. Contemporary tree calf gilt, spines gilt, each with two morocco lettering pieces, edges gilt. Provenance: Emmanuel Martin, bookplate, probably the copy listed by Cohen-de Ricci 143, sold in the Martin sale (no.572) at 470 frs.; Sander 133.
