Hand-coloured engraved frontispiece portrait of Gavarni after Lorentz to the first series, each volume with hand-coloured title vignette, 12 sectional titles with hand-coloured wood-engraved vignettes and 320 hand-coloured wood-engraved plates after Gavarni heighted with gum arabic, protected by tissue guards (Very light creasing and occasional light marginal soiling to some plates in the second series.) Original publishers's boards printed on white paper, with upper covers reproducing the frontispiece (spines restored).
