Lot Essay

The design for this present piece appears in the Elkington and Co. pattern books c.1885, p.329, fig.no.247, (reproduced: Stuart Durant, Christopher Dresser, Academy Group, London, 1993, p. 91).
Dresser is believed to have begun supplying designs to Elkington & Co. from the mid-1860s, although many of these earlier designs may have taken time to become part of Elkington's range.
