Each with rectangular palmette border above panelled sides centred by a vestal's mask and with scrolling lotus angles, above a stepped base and on paw feet headed by scrolling foliage

Lot Essay

The masks closely relate to those sold in these Rooms by the late Angus McBean, 9 July 1992, lot 10. These were attributed to Alexis De Caix and possibly supplied to Thomas Hope for the Dining-Room chimney-piece of his Duchess Street mansion, London
