cover 1840 Mulready 1d. envelope, A134, sent by Daniel O'Connell in London to Dublin and signed by him at lower left, endorsed on reverse "This cover was directed by Mr. O'Connell on the day the new Postage stamps first came into operation viz 6th May 1840", showing red London 7 May despatch c.d.s. alongside and 8 May arrival datestamp on front, inscribed "6th May 1840" in manuscript on front and neatly cancelled with red Maltese Cross and showing black "Charing Cross" adjacent; slight creasing and central portion on reverse removed with seal.
