an inscription on the inside cover of the album reads 'To my dear Father/and Mother, the accompanying sketch Bk/and Journal are/affectionately/dedicated./M Kempson/Bareilly (?) Upper India/23rd Ap.1861/Favoured by A.C. Lyall Esq/B.C.S.', the individual watercolours variously inscribed and dated 'Nov 1856' to 'April/61'; the majority pencil, pen and brown ink and brown wash, some pencil and watercolour, 69 drawings laid down on the pages of the album
