Lot Essay

This print satirizes the 'Nabobs' who returned home to flaunt the vast wealth quickly gained in the service of the East India Company. Aristocratic landowners feared that the 'East India Interest' would influence Parliament and undermine their influence in society, but the 'Nabob Scare' proved ill-founded.
