Lot Essay

A similar jar is illustrated by Mary Tregear, Song Ceramics, p. 194, pl. 265; "This is a very distinctive type of little jar, sometimes called a rice measure; they were made in graduated sizes. The colour of the body and glaze inside may vary, but the shape and combed decoration are constant. Such measuring pots were also found in the wreck off the Sinan coast of Korea".
