A MEISSEN DARK-BLUE-GROUND TWO-HANDLED POT-POURRI VASE AND PIERCED COVER
Circa 1880

Painted with a maiden and three cherubs among clouds, one turning the pages of a book, the reverse with Mercury lying on drapery and clouds, listening as a cherub reads from a scroll, each scene enclosed within a white and gilt scroll and shell-moulded cartouche, the sides moulded with Bacchic masks and the cover with a laurel garland finial, the lower body festooned with swags of laurel, on a spirally moulded stem and footed square base moulded with garlands and leaf paterae (restoration to base of one handle, to stem and finial), blue crossed swords mark, Pressnummer 144, incised f.28.
