Lot Essay

Van Noorde, best known for his landscapes, is also known to have drawn several animals. In the catalogue of the sale of his estate (Konstboek H, p.24, lots 593-5), several drawings of animals are mentioned, among which 'drie camelions' (B. Sliggers, Het schetsboek van Cornelis van Noorde 1731-1735, Haarlem, 1982, p. 139). Other drawings include a lion, a hyena, a camel and a rhinoceros
