Lot Essay

Ploos van Amstel mentions this Middelburg artist as a pupil of Aert Schouman which would explain the great similarity in style. The present lot is dated in the year in which Perkois joined the Academy in The Hague where Schouman also worked.
The monkey originates from Guyana, and is now called 'Sagoe wingtje' in Suriname
