Lot Essay

Professor Dr. Ilja M. Veldman has kindly confirmed the attribution and pointed out existance of the engraving. She dates the drawing to circa 1550, which is early in the artist's oeuvre of drawings as the earliest of these dates from 1549. She compares the present lot to a drawing of The Last Judgement in the Szépmüvészeti Múzeum, Budapest which is also dated to circa 1550 (J.P. Filedt Kok, W. Halsema Kubes, W. Th. Kloek, Kunst voor de Beeldenstorm, The Hague, 1986, no. 141, illustrated p. 260)
