Portret van G.A. Escher (Portrait of G.A.Escher) (B. 274)

lithograph, 1935, on cream wove paper, an apparently unsigned counterproof of this very rare lithograph, insect damages mainly in the face, the hand and along the borderline of the image, glued down along the margins, an old horizontal fold in the lower part of the image, some foxing, lesser defects, framed
L. 262 x 207 mm.
Provenance
Given by the artist to his nephew A. Escher, and by descent in the family to the present owner

Lot Essay

The original lithograph shows both the signature of Escher and that of his father in reverse. It may therefore be assumed that the few counterproofs of this print that are known were made to show the signatures in the right direction
