G.W.C. for Generale Westindische Compagnie, PVDN for Pieter van der Nolle (1738-1794) lived in Alkmaar and traded in coffee, tea and chocolate, whereby he not only became very affluent but also important in local Alkmaar political circles. This goblet could have been a gift but could also have been ordered by him, this not earlier than 1760 when he officially became trader
