Lot Essay

Teixeira found his own style around 1890 when he studied in Artis and the London Zoo and started to make statues of animals. This statue of the lioness with her young is one of the finest examples of his work.
A plaster version of the larger version of this bronze is recorded in the Museum Mesdag, The Hague.
