The support is stamped with the emblem of Pieter Stas, the coat-of-arms of the City of Antwerp and the date 1604 (see illustration)

If the picture was executed soon after the support was made, it would be one of the earliest of Frans Francken the Younger's paintings executed during his fathers lifetime, hence the inclusion of the appellation ION(GE)
