Lot Essay

The artist was registered as a citizen of Amsterdam in 1685. At the time of his death, he was recorded in the burial register as a 'Constschilder op de Prinsengracht' (see Bredius, op. cit., p. 976). His son and nephew were also active as painters in Amsterdam in the beginning of the 18th century
